The book 'doctor ken' is the true story about Kehnroth Schramm, M.D. The story examines issues of medical ethics, legal ethics, and social injustices. It is also a story of the many facets of love.
The little book 'Packets of Seeds: Messages from Kehnroth Schramm, M.D. describing Life after Passing' is written for those in grief or curious about death and dying. Through me, Ken describes his experience of dying and living in the hereafter.
During our quarter of a century working together, Doctor Ken Schramm and I were doing old fashioned house calls and psychotherapy in family homes, where we often painted and sculpted with children and their parents. Ken and I volunteered in a school for a while, providing extra curricular clay time for children who would be waiting for us and overflowed the large classroom. Some of the children were having troubles in their lives and definitely did not want to be in school, but to the surprise of the administration and parents, these same children would be early, waiting at the tables on the days we would be at the school and they would run to help us unload clay from the car. Art was more important in the health of the children than adults had recognized, and some failed to recognize regardless of the children's changed behavior.
I have been lucky to have studied with many painters and sculptors doing varying styles. It started when my Father encouraged me as a six year old and helped me to order a drawing lesson kit. My grade one teacher introduced me to clay and glazes. It was then that I realized how important art is to the development of children. When the art supply cupboard opened and I could smell the art materials, I thought I was in Heaven. The arts in the lives of children should not be underestimated.
My experiences as a Midwife do continue to influence my art, and children suffering at the hands of man and nature do enter my work as though calling out for recognition. Ken and I produced a video, Tibetan Children's Art, a story told by orphaned Tibetan children. The children had never had the opportunity to draw or paint on paper before they did the pictures. The children produced great artwork to tell what they were experiencing and feeling with the knowledge that they were talking through their art to people across the world. Cynthia Hunt started the project and brought the artwork to North America; she worked with us to produce the video and then took it back to the people to view and gave a copy to the Dalai Lama. The video played on public television in Dharamsala and Ladakh and unknown places. Feedback from the Tibetan people of these regions was that it was a "smash hit".
Artwork can be used in many ways and cause many reactions.
When I was in my twenties, before computers, I was trained by a master photographer in photography, and in retouching/restoring photos and negatives, winning prizes for other photographers with my skill as a retoucher. I still enjoy playing around with photos and do it just for fun.
A true story: I was sleeping after reading a book about Saint Theresa of Avila. On the brink between sleeping and waking in the morning, I dreamed that I was dreaming that I was dreaming. I went through deeper levels of consciousness to a state of super consciousness. I was now more acutely awake than in my every day waking consciousness. I heard a choir of a thousand, thousand angels singing, more beautiful and powerful than can be described.
Since having that experience, there has been a desire to create representations of a higher spiritual power, showing immortality of all life.
I was looking at books on art in the university bookstore. A book literally jumped off the shelf by itself and fell on my foot. I looked down and saw it was a book of angels in paintings. I then started putting guardian angels in pictures with children to provide comfort for their fears.
What I am working on now: a privately requested painting and more stories.
